The Three Main Decisions Of Your Life

I was told something very early in my life by someone who I trust a lot. That person is not my friend or family. That person is someone who taught me for 3 months. Like actually taught me. She was my teacher, a mentor someone who I look up to every day.

That person told me about the Three Main Decisions in one’s life. No matter what, you should never allow someone else to make these decisions for you.

So, the 3 main decisions of your life are as follows:

  1. Education
  2. Career
  3. Life Partner

You are in this world to make it a better place. The way you can do that is by enlightening yourself first. That’s where education comes in. And that’s where it is an important decision. Do not leave it on to chance, or someone else. Make that decision.

Another phase comes when you apply your knowledge to build this world a better place. That’s what we call your Career. Your career is an occupation that you undertake for a significant period of your life and with opportunities for progress. Never let someone else decide the career path for you. You will apply your education to choose it for yourself. Make that decision.

At a certain point in one’s life, you need someone with whom you can reflect your thoughts. With whom you can share your thought process. Someone that is equally affected by your emotions. Someone who will be by your side no matter what. Someone who will share your dreams, and not just share, will strive to fulfil them. Someone who will stay till the very end. These things are not easy. And when you find that partner, don’t let them go. Make that decision.

Now comes the hard part for Indians…

If you are living in India, then the third decision is not yours.

It is already made for you by your parents.

If it is not already made then they will make it for you.

You can’t deny their decision, because they are your parents. You are nourished in that way. You can’t go against your parent’s will. There are repercussions. You will always live in guilt even if you know you’ve made the right choice.

Sometime’s the right choice is the hardest and makes you sad.

But you know what – it’s okay to be sad after making the right decision.

But… It’s also okay to make the wrong decision knowingly if it makes your loved ones happy.

So if you are an Indian. Then it’s a hard choice for you. Because you don’t always have the luxury to make all three decisions.

Live with that.
