League Of Legends Is My New Hobby

January 5, 2023 by Varun Shrivastava 10 Comments

Red Nexus

I’ve always been a bit on the competitive side. And what better place could there be then our very own gaming world.

The online gaming has taken the competitiveness to a next level.

People like me can now take out their anger in a more friendly way. Ahem… don’t play League if you are soft hearted person. You will cry to sleep. And why I say so, well… People are… let’s put it this way.. not always friendly. And that makes it even more competitive. Because now you are no longer playing for fun. You are playing to win.

Why I Love League Of Legends?

There are numerous reasons to love this game.

  • Very Difficult
  • Very Competitive
  • Too much fun
  • Unlimited learning opportunities
  • Team game
  • You can play with your friends
  • Toxic communities – they can make you cry
  • Strategic – you need to be smart. You can’t play with low IQ. You need slightly above average to climb.
  • Improves cognitive control

The list will go on and on…

The top reason for me to play this game is because of its difficulty. If you would ask me – whether learning a new language is more difficult or League of Legends (LOL), I would say hands down League Of Legends is way more difficult. For one it has

Premise Of The Game

The premise of the game is really simple.

The game is played between two teams of 5. Red team and Blue team.

Each team has there own base called Nexus. Look at the images below:

Red Nexus
Red Team Nexus
blue-nexus
Blue Team Nexus

There are 3 lanes to reach to the enemy nexus. Each lane consists of multiple turrets. These turrets beat the shit out of you if you go near it. But they have a priority. They prioritise minions over you. So if you have your minions wave with you, you can go near turret and hit it and the turret won’t hit you back. Rather turret will focus first on the minions.

As you can see in the image below. The turret will be hitting the minions first and meanwhile you can hit the turret. But remember there will be an enemy team player as well. So, it’s not as plain and easy.

Turret prioritising the minions while champion hits the turret

So, to win the game, you need to destroy all the turrets that are in the way and then finally nexus.

Roles In The Game

There are mainly 5 roles in the game.

  • Top Laner
  • Mid Laner
  • Bot Laner Carry
  • Bot Laner Support
  • Jungler

From the role name it is quite clear that top laner will play in the top lane. And like wise for mid and bot laner. Support is a role made to play in the bot lane with their main. So main bot laner carries the lane and support player enables them.

Now comes the jungler role. This is quite useful and sometimes bit more challenging role to play. This role doesn’t require them to play in any lane rather focus on jungle monsters. This is another part of the game that we have not covered.

In jungle there are monsters. And monsters give you unique leverage over other teams. For example there is a Red Buff. This gives your player ability to heal and extra damage. Then there is Blue Buff, this provides unlimited source for Mana (basically mana is the fuel for using your abilities).

And then there are Drakes (dragons literally). There are many different dragons. You can read all about them here. But just in short there are following drakes (at the time of this blog post):

  • Chemtech Drake.
  • Cloud Drake.
  • Hextech Drake.
  • Infernal Drake.
  • Mountain Drake.
  • Ocean Drake.
  • Elder Dragon.

Each of these dragons provides useful buffs to each player that could really tilt the game towards there end. And the role of jungler is to strategise and coordinate team members to take these drakes. Also, a jungler could come between fights and make the fight advantageous for the team.

Really there’s a lot more to it. For that you really gotta play the game.
